Govt to form 22 new wings of civil,armed forces: Senate told

ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Monday that as many as 22 new wings of the civil armed forces would be established by the end of the year, recruiting over 17,000 personnel.
State Minister for Interior Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House that funds had been earmarked for this purpose and the process would be completed in December this year. He was responding to a calling attention notice by PML-N’s Abdul Qayyum regarding the delay in reorganisation and fresh raising of civil armed forces to enhance their capacity in order to meet the border management challenges and security threats both during war and peace.
The PML-N senator said that the Frontier Corps, the Rangers and Frontier Constabulary had been laying an important part during peace time on border management and pressure had mounted on them while managing the western border after the 9/11 events.
He explained civil armed forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa consisted of 80,000 personnel and those in Balochistan were 70,000 personnel, who managed borders with Afghanistan and Iran. The senator said they were in need of helicopters and latest weaponry.
He added there were a total of 23,000 Rangers in Karachi to restore and maintain peace there. He added they were in need of security cameras, crime ratio had fallen where, these devices had been installed.
